Vancouver to Toronto Train Journey
Places visited: Vancouver, Kamloops, Banff, Jasper, Toronto
On VIA Rail’s The Canadian, Prestige Class is the luxury service, providing the most space with cabins that are roughly 50 per cent larger, an en-suite with shower, included meals and drinks, and dedicated concierge service. Sleeper Plus offers comfortable berths and private cabins, included meals, and shared lounges.

The most immediate difference between Prestige Class and Sleeper Plus is space. Prestige cabins are roughly 50 per cent larger, with an L-shaped sofa and an oversized window that lets you sit and watch the landscape in private comfort. Sleeper Plus has berths, Cabins for One, and Cabins for Two. All Sleeper Plus options are comfortably sized for the journey, practical and well-arranged, but they do not have as much room as Prestige. The table below sets out the side-by-side comparison.
Cabin comparison: Prestige Class versus Sleeper Plus on The Canadian
NOTE: These fares represent the starting price for a personalized itinerary booked with Canadian Train Vacations by Fresh Tracks Canada, which includes rail, hotel accommodation, sightseeing tours and activities, hotel and station transfers, planning and travel support.

Prestige cabins are approximately 6.5 square metres (70 square feet), about 50 per cent larger than a Sleeper Plus Cabin for Two. Their picture windows are about 60 per cent larger. Sleeper Plus dimensions and layouts vary by berth, Cabin for One and Cabin for Two.
Prestige has an L-shaped leather sofa that converts to a double Murphy bed facing the panoramic window. Sleeper Plus berths become upper or lower beds behind curtains; cabins convert from daytime seating into one or two beds, depending on cabin type.

Choose for the daytime experience, too
Think beyond the bed. If you expect to spend quiet hours reading or watching the scenery from your own room, Prestige’s sofa and large window can matter as much as its nighttime comfort. If you prefer the dome and lounges, Sleeper Plus may be all you need.

These sample itineraries feature time on the Canadian train, which offers both Sleeper Plus and Prestige cabins.
The Park Car is the elegant observation lounge at the rear of The Canadian. Its upper-level dome offers sweeping views, while the lower level features comfortable lounge seating and a bar. It is a relaxed place to watch the scenery, enjoy a drink and meet fellow travellers.
Access varies by class and season. Prestige guests receive priority access and dedicated concierge service, while Sleeper Plus access may be restricted during peak periods.
More detail on the Park Car experience is on the Prestige Class page.
Sleeper Plus guests can use the Skyline dome and lounge cars. Park Car access varies by season and operating policy; during peak periods, access may be limited to certain times. Confirm the rules for your departure rather than treating Park Car access as a guaranteed Sleeper Plus inclusion.
Sleeper Plus is a service class with three main accommodation choices: upper and lower berths with privacy curtains, a Cabin for One and a Cabin for Two. All include linens, meals, access to shared lounges and showers, and priority boarding. Cabins add a private toilet and sink.
Positioned in the full class ladder, Sleeper Plus sits above Economy class on The Canadian and below Prestige Class. (Note that Business Class is part of VIA Rail’s Corridor service and is not a class option on The Canadian) Economy travels in large open seats with no sleeping provision. Sleeper Plus is the first level at which you get a dedicated sleeping space and all meals included.
The options within Sleeper Plus are explained in full on the Sleeper Plus Class page.
Priority boarding applies to all Sleeper Plus guests, so you can settle into your cabin before the train departs.
Prices on The Canadian vary by season, route direction and how far in advance you book, so the figures below are a general starting point and reflect low season. Our local travel experts can create a personalized quote based on your dates and preferences.
Sleeper Plus from approximately $5,980 to $11,140 CAD per person for a Toronto to Vancouver journey with Canadian Train Vacations by Fresh Tracks Canada, depending on the time of year and the cabin type within the tier.
Prestige Class carries a premium above Sleeper Plus pricing. The exact difference depends on the season, and our local travel experts will give you the current figure for your dates. Trips with Canadian Train Vacations by Fresh Tracks Canada generally start at around $13,590 to $17,860 CAD depending on the season.
Shoulder-season travel in spring and autumn can bring a more comfortable price point for the same cabin, with fewer guests on the train and a quieter journey overall.
Both service classes on The Canadian are suited to a relaxed pace; the question is what you want the journey to feel like.
Our Vacation Advisors, known as Canadian Insiders, often point out that first-time guests on The Canadian tend to be delighted by Sleeper Plus, while those who have done the journey before and want to treat themselves upgrade to Prestige. Either way, the scenery is the same; the difference is how you experience it.
Explore both options on the The Canadian cabin classes page, or speak with our team to make the choice with guidance.

Spend time in Jasper
Whatever class you choose, consider breaking up the transcontinental journey with time in Jasper. Many of our sample itineraries include time in the Rockies and one of our Canadian Insiders can help you make all the arrangements, giving you time to experience Jasper National Park rather than only seeing this scenic area from the train.
